less about sisterhood & more about the mc navigating her life, her position as a woman in the world, her mental illness, etc. i loved the little bits about food & about the other woman & would have loved for their characters to be explored more. i was excited in the beginning when supper club is referred to as something along the lines of a “living work of art”, but it ended up being mostly about the mc & everyone else’s relationship to her. i still really liked it though. like a lot. i love when women are Just People. maybe even slightly bad people.

i really wanted to love this book, but i found it so incredibly fucking boring. i went into it thinking it’d be about strong women challenging beauty standards and societal expectations, but it was instead about women treating each other like shit and obsessing over insufferable men. i didn’t care about a single character, and the random cooking-related tangents served zero purpose. the last few pages might have pushed my rating to 1.5 stars, had it not been for the fact that this book put me in a reading slump. i’m mad

I enjoyed the writing and the audio book narration was spot on. This book is less about the actual supper club (maybe like 15% of the book) and more about sad girl vibes. I appreciated the depiction of a main character who often feels like she’s the unwanted side character to everyone in her life. I think the value of this book lies in how the MC navigates anxiety, depression, and general neurospicy time. The supper club storyline didn’t add much to conversations around womanhood and body-size, but had lots of fun descriptions of food.
