Too much football for my taste. Even so, the issues our country is facing now are so clearly foreshadowed in parts of this sad tale. Those parts were very interesting. Bissinger is a wonderful writer, but the subject was just not one I was that into.

I thought maybe I would enjoy this as I love a scrappy sports story but I listed to 60 pages of this and then gave up. The racism and use of racial slurs was too much, especially because I felt like you were supposed to be rooting for this team and I couldn't root for some of these people. I hope that at some point in the book, there was growth for these individuals but I didn't have the patience or interest to get there.

This book was going to count for a few reading challenges but I didn't read enough of it to feel OK counting it for those.

Okay here's the thing, conceptually, I like this book but in reality, I couldn't give less of a shit about football, there was so much info dumping that I zoned out for damn near chapters at a time. I get why this was assigned for English class but I still greatly disliked it.
