I love Kate Baer’s work! She has the most beautiful poetry that just feels so authentically feminist and I love it. I tried listening to this one instead of reading it and I kind of loved the experience of just listening to her words, but I want to READ it as well.

I can't give this one a rating because there were some poems in here that I absolutely loved, that spoke to me completely, and that gave me the happy sort of tears in my eyes. Then there were some that were almost too sad to read, or full of pain. I know that I can't critique memoirs, or books of poetry because it feels so sensitive and dear to the author. I loved underlining so much in this, and tabbing the ones that will stick with me. Kate Baer can truly write about womanhood, motherhood, and life.

And Yet and yet and yet.

The maturation between Kate Baer's two collections is impressive, but not half as impressive as her ability to balance the approachability of instagram poetry with the creative ambition of more traditional forms. So many lines in here made me catch my breath, and the pieces that address COVID are handled with such tenderness that I am beginning to reconsider my "pandemic art doesn't work yet" stance.
