This book is about a young girl who runs away from a home where her father comes home drunk every chance he gets. When Damaris becomes a Christian, she has to deal with bitterness towards her father, and the evil that acoholic beverages brings.

A good example for girls in this book, was Damaris's willingness to work. Can you believe that she went for two whole years without a day off, maintainging three jobs?

Of course there is love in the story, as is customary in a Jeanette Oke book, but it comes at the end, as there is not as much of it as in others.

All in all, this was a good book.

I loved this book. It takes one verse from the Bible and really puts it in perspective. Amazing read if you like Christian Historical Fiction.

This was one of the sadder book in this series. Abuse is a big topic in this story so please take care when you read it. Other than that this was good and I was very pleased with the ending.

I was shocked pleasantly at how much I like this book. It really takes you through the character's life and you grow up with her, in a short amount of time. I found myself looking at things in my life as well. Overall I would highly recommend this book.

A great Jannette Oke read if you are a fan. Romance and western setting with a strong female main character.
