After seeing so much praise for T L Swan, I thought this would be a good place to start since Marx Girl is listed as a readable as a standalone. I sincerely hope that this is not the case, and that the book would be better with the backstory in the other books before Marx Girl. There were brief mentions of things that happened in the past that might have added more dimensions to both Ben and Bridget.

I didn't like Bridget, and I didn't like Ben. I didn't want them to end up together because I didn't like how Ben acted, how he treated Bridget, and how he threw tantrums to emotionally bully Bridget into being with him and being obsessed with him. I didn't like how Bridget was constantly pitching fits, screaming, freaking out, and generally making everything that happened about her, despite finding out things that Ben struggled with.

Speaking of things that Ben struggled with, Bridget finds out about his past, which he clearly stated he does not tell people for a reason, then she proceeds to tell at least 2-3 other people about it. Those actions left a horrible taste in my mouth.

In regards to the sex/smut scenes, it was an incredibly weak dynamic. There is not background to how their relationship began or how they came to trust each other when suddenly, in the first chapter or so, Bridget is dropping to her knees and waiting for his commands. It just did not make any sense to me. There are many other books out there that do D/s dynamics better.

Long story short, this read like fan fiction of a fan fiction for 50 Shades of Grey.
