There were weird hints at incest early in the book, which I was listening to on a road trip. Decided to look it up through reviews before continuing on leg #2, and sure enough, apparently we eventually learn that not only was there incest, it's rape! But it's portrayed as a broken taboo, not a crime. The story isn't even that good and it made me feel icky. A bummer personally, as I really liked The Crane Wife and had this book on my to-read list for maybe 5 years.
