So I thought this was going to be a light-hearted, funny read. What I got instead was a crash course in the vegan world. I have decided to give the veg life a try, seeing as I now want to vomit thinking about what goes on before you get your meat on the plate. Very informative, but if you are dedicated to your sirloin, stay away.

More vegan than I realized. The products are very outdated and certainly also full of chemicals but the overall of (most) concepts are great to adopt. Def made me take another look at meat.

This is a really fun, quick read on veganism. It's written in really simple terms with a lot of crassness thrown in, in a good way. It starts out with short chapters on why all the junk we eat, like soda, is bad for us. Great chapter titles, like Sugar is the Devil. They dispel all the myths that we've been fed about why we have to eat meat and dairy. The authors go into details about all the benefits of a vegan lifestyle and explain the political and cruelty aspects in easy to understand terms while still quoting plenty of studies. They even have a nice 4 week meal plan set up at the end and lists of resources and vegan foods named by brand.

What I particularly like about this book is the underlying message of being healthy and taking care of yourself and your body. Although the title may lead you to believe it's all about being skinny, it really isn't.

Definitely impassioned and thought-provoking. A great idea if you are looking to scare yourself into eating well - the authors are sometimes graphic. Still, it was easy to read and definitely entertaining.

Quick fun read, some good information. Though I won't go full out, it gave me some more ideas about eating.

This book should be called Skinny Vegan because most of it is a guide to going vegan. Also, fasting. I am not a good candidate for either of these things.

I appreciated that this book is based off of a vegan & vegetarian diet, however it was printed 18 years ago in 2005. SO much has changed in the vegan foods industry. Yes, fruits & vegetables are at the forefront always, but because this book is so outdated, it recommends tons of bad-for-you vegan food options that they literally call in the book "fake chicken"/ "fake bacon" other options they recommend are full of carbs, sugar, hfcs, sodium & startch. The vegan & vegetarian food industry has come a long way in what is available since 2005. All in all, I do think this book had a lot to offer and really enjoyed the way the authors spoke so bluntly and honestly (if f-bombs aren't your thing pass on it) I'd be willing to reread and re-rate the book if it were revised and updated.

I didn't have high expectations for this book because the title made it sound mainstream and shallow, like another book about another diet fad. But, I was given a free copy and I've been on a health and well-being reading kick while I put in my time on the elliptical, so I gave this little book a shot.

Since I gave it a rare five-star rating, needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. The authors use a voice that sells (#1 NYT Bestseller type sales!) to talk about not only how to cultivate a healthier lifestyle, but also to tackle the grim realities of the food industry. I laughed out loud often. As a writer, I have a lot of respect for the authors' abilities to get creative with their angle in order to shed light on topics most Americans want to conveniently ignore. I loved it!

I wish I could give this zero stars.

These women have no idea how the body or nutrition works. On page 8 or so when it says "Duh chemicals are bad for your body." you realize you need to put the book down and walk away. They have no idea at all what they are talking about. "I used to be a model so now I'm a scientist." Sure, sweety.

I don't care what gender you are. Everyone should read this book. It is full of very eye opening and valuable information about the garbage we ingest on a daily basis. If this book doesn't make you want to eat better, I don't know what will.

It also gives insight into how corrupt the food industry is. It's infuriating.
