WOW this book was a lot. It was extremely compelling while also being kind of exhaustingly difficult to read - not in the sense that's pretentiously written or overwrought, but because you suffer along with the protagonists and it's painful, agonizing, and destabilizing throughout. I thought it was great psychological horror and as much as it leaves you shattered, the uncertainty is interesting and really makes it stick. I do think it could have been a little tighter, and at the same time, while I respect the choice to leave some things ambiguous there things are I would love to know more about.

Content note: this is absolutely not for you if you have tender feelings about harm coming to children. Like, I definitely couldn't have read this as a new mom. Be cautious. It's also pretty gory and violent overall, and it's...I used the word "shattered", right? It's a lot, so only read if you have the spoons for that. (
