One of my top faves for the year. Absolutely brilliant. Quan might have needed to be more fleshed out a bit, more developed, but Anna was the star of the show for this book. The heartache, and the pain she goes through in these pages destroyed me. But the ending was very good, and I am glad things ended as they did. I am so proud of Anna and Quan 🥹

100/5 stars. This book has a romance subplot and a happily ever after, but it more of a fiction read in my opinion. Reading this book was affirming in more ways than I could’ve ever imagined. It helped me see so much of what’s happened in my own life over the past few years. In watching Anna take care of herself and return to her passions, I feel like I can daydream about the future again. It’s feels like taking a good, deep breath. I’ll never love another book quite like I love this one.

This was story was a hit for me. I really enjoyed Anna and Quan as characters and I loved how they always built each other up. They actually had hard things happen in their lives and they were there for each other.
I wish we could’ve seen more in the 3rd part particularly in Anna working through her issues and seeing how Quan supported her but I understand why Hoang didn’t do that.
I really identified with parts of Anna’s inner turmoil and found myself wanting her to figure the answer so I could. This is definitely an emotional and heavy book in the latter half and I believe you should keep that in mind before/while reading it.
I wish the differences between Anna and Priscilla were solved, but in the end, it felt realistic and comforting to know that we’ll be okay even if not everyone in our family reconciles. Another bittersweet theme to add to this book. Also, while I’m being nitpicky, I did feel that the unevenness’s and realness of the character’s conflicts made it feel less like a romance and made Quan a bit too perfect but that’s okay:)

There was 🌶 but it takes a backseat more than previous books did in this series.

petition to stop authors from referring to genitalia as the person's "sex" eg. "i felt his sex" - please that's revolting.

before any review, a personal anecdote,
i had a.. traumatising experience reading this book. i borrowed it from the library and who would have thought it but after 2 days of having it a spilled water on it 🤙 now the last last of the pages are crinkled and light tinted brown SO LETS SEE IF THEY NOTICE WHEN I RETURN IT HMM STAY TUNED!!

anyway now to the literature at hand, this was ... fine. i haven't read any of the other books in the trilogy but i found this to be a very average romance book.

the couple were very likable and their stories will probably relate with a lot of people. they provide good representation for asian family dynamics, neurodivergent experiences and idk ARTISTIC BURNOUT.

but there wasn't anything TOO special about it. the romance was cute and their sex scenes were fine (except for the last one that was quite .. repulsive just because she used the word "his sex" far too many times)

i actually really enjoyed the parts with anna at home with her family. seeing their dynamics and anna's personal dilemmas was really interesting but i felt it interrupted the flow of the story.
