It was really long for the amount of substance it actually had. I wanted to know more about the characters but mostly I really wanted to know more about the mystery/plot of the whole thing. There were so many clues and little things that looked like they might come together but those ended up being nothing and then the entire mystery wrapped up in one very short chapter and very weirdly. It felt like the author really had a cool idea but couldn’t execute it so just kind of wrote it off. Anyways, I wouldn’t recommend, it’s very slow to start and when it does pick up it’s just ok.

I think this would have been okay but omg the pretentious quotes in each chapter that were clearly from the author googling “quotes about death”. It’s fine to write a smutty romance book- you don’t have to qualify it. Also, with all of that buildup, I honestly could have used more actual smut in there. Otherwise a fine time.
As the kids say, I was today-years-old when I learned this was supposed to have been a Hades/Persephone retelling. We have our weirdo nepo baby for whom closed-off means being devoid of a personality. Don't worry: she's petite like every other FMC on the planet. Her paramour is a "mercurial-eyed, longish-haired, hunky chonk" MMC. You will be reminded of these three character traits a million f*cking times. "You keep using that word 'chonk'--I don't think it means what you think it means."
I abhor repetitive language. Furthermore, I abhor language that reminds me of idiot teenagers. Characters "dipped", had "mad respect", etc. I really thought the mystery and inextricable connection between the main characters was leading to something epic, but the end kind of fizzled, so I landed on 3 stars.
Pros: well-chosen quotes from other, much better books; the beautiful photography; the atmosphere.
