Okay I blew through that book. I am a sucker for anything Dark Academia inspired and this book had me hooked.

There is thick and twisted plots, betrayal, and sinister people at play. You're constantly doubting the characters, unsure if they are genuine or part of a wider scheme. This story is written so that you felt like the detective in a murder mystery, putting the pieces of the puzzle together, and I was here for it. Nothing beats a good puzzle to solve.

I absolutely adored the MMC, despite the feeling I shouldn't. He fits the morally grey role perfectly, tattooed and gruff with a voice like gravel. We thought the FMC was dark, but he matches her on every wavelength. Saying all the wrong things at the right times but making you fall for him all the same. I felt like I was walking into a trap, waiting for it to all come down around the FMC.

The only thing I felt didn't fit was the pace at the end. Throughout the story it was consistent but the last part felt a little rushed for me. Like we spent the whole book building up to something big, and it needed more real estate than it got, I wanted just a bit more detail to it. It felt like once we got to it, after waiting the whole book, it was over too quick.

The ending was satisfyingly happy, and who doesnt love a happy ending.

This is a standalone and I do kinda wish there was more, simply because I loved the two main characters and wish I could spend more time with them.

Definitely a few trigger warnings to read at the beginning, but nothing that upset me in any way, but make sure you read before proceeding, as you should with any book.

I highly recommend for anyone looking for a standalone who loves a grumpy gruff MMC and dark academia, the perfect combination of the two.

Listen…. I was hyped for this book but it’s a huge no for me. I was hyped for Enigma — the cover? Fire. The blurb? Intriguing. The actual book? Extremely boring. The mystery isn’t mysterious enough. The romance is non-existent and doesn’t even show itself until basically the end of the book.
Major flop, sadly!!!

I give this 3.5⭐️ it was so good from start to like 3/4 and then it got so rushed at the end as if she was close to her word count (lol) and rushed that end climax (if you’d even call it a climax) and then poof it ended. It was good but not great. Disappointed with her last two publishes tbh, I expected better from someone who wrote such a fantastic series (all but that last book anyway) and Gothikana

Well the book does not worth the hype in my opinion. first 35% or so nothing happened, just words. After was cute gray cute, kinds predictable. I did like where their dynamic went and how they did good for each other.

Got to love a good possessive mmc

DID NOT FINISH: 63%

I just can't do it.  I'm 63%  through, the press to make things "mysterious" means there's no advancement in the mystery. The MCs are so painfully proud of their deep emotional scarring, and the sex isn't that good. I've paused it three times and have no desire to go back to it, and there are so many other books on my shelf.
