I am a long time fan of the anime, but this is my first foray into manga. The story was as hilarious as expected, but I am a little disappointed as to how true to the manga the anime is. I was hoping for some additional content and stories that would make the manga that much more enjoyable, but so far is it exceedingly similar.

I'm not going to spend too much time writing about Ouran High School Host Club because, well, if you know you know. I'm just deeply impressed that series can be so successful at simultaneously mocking taboo tropes in fandom while also blatantly indulging them. It's really fun to read the original manga after watching the anime (a lot) with the running commentary from the author as the episodes and volumes were printed, and I'm really excited to keep reading!
I’ve watched the anime several times I finally decided to read the manga it’s just as amazing
funny
lighthearted
medium-paced
Summary:
Things are different at the schools of the hyper-rich and elite. They may as well be operating on an entirely different planet. Haruhi is the only outlier at her school, one of the only kids that don't have insane amounts of money. In fact, she's poor, which is unfortunate because she just broke an $80,000 vase. Now she'll have to work it off at the "Host Club."
The "Host Club" is a mysterious – yet luxurious – high school club. It has six members plus one new employee (Haruhi). However...there is one small complication, as they all think Haruhi is a boy.
Review:
Ouran High School Host Club Vol. 1 is pretty much everything I had expected/hoped for. I can see why people love this series so much. It's fun and quirky, even right out of the gate. That said, I think it will take longer to fully appreciate all the characters in Ouran High School Host Club. After all, there are seven primary characters to get to know, and this is only the first volume.
It's one series that surprises you with how quickly it'll make you laugh. The reverse-harem element certainly adds a lot to the plot, as do all of the complications Haruhi has to deal with. I'll admit that watching these rich boys float around was funnier than expected.
I should probably take some time to sit down and watch the anime. But before I do that, I must decide whether to read more of the manga first or focus on the anime. Decisions, decisions...
Will I continue the series? Maybe
Highlights:
Manga – Bishounen
Reverse Harem
Has an Anime
Romantic Comedy

i first meet them in anime adaptation so it's kinda odd to read this knowing the whole thing
Have you ever just felt like you need something light and funny to read when you're in a bad mood? You can read anything by [b:Louise Rennison|11539731|Louise Rennison Collection 12 Books Set Georgia Nicolson (Withering Tights Luuurve And Other Ramblings, Luuurve Is A Many Trousered Thing... , Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers, Stop In The Name And More)|Louise Rennison|/assets/nocover/60x80.png|16478919] for a laugh, but if you're more partial to manga and graphic novels, this is a must-read for humour and comedy.
The manga starts off with a scholarship student, Haruki, accidentally breaking a vase that costs a lot of money. To repay this debt, the Host Club forces her to cook and clean for them, and is then initiated into the club as one of the members. However, the caveat is that every member of this club is a boy, so Haruki pretends to be a boy as well so she can get the attention of girls at the school and pay off her debt.
The reason this manga merits 4 stars is that it is comical and light. If you're looking for plot, look elsewhere. Nothing serious has developed here, yet. But I was laughing and smiling throughout this whole volume, and that's what I was reading for, so I'm a happy reader.

A Comfort Read
I've re read this book multiple times, and I never seem to grow tired of it. It's funny and not too serious (though the characters all have something they're going through.) I'd heard people talk about comfort characters, etc. But I'd never really thought about it for myself, but I think that I can safely say that this is one of my comfort reads. Just like the show is a comfort show for me. I read the Manga before I watched the show, and I must say I like the shows animation better than the Manga's illustrations. It's neater and more aesthetically pleasing (to me at least) but they're both equally amazing overall.

Needed to re-read this after another book horrendously betrayed me (I'm being dramatic, but) it's crazy that ONE volume was like 2 or 3 different episodes of the anime. Which,, in theory is good, but since there are only 26 episodes they don't make it very far...I hope that since Fruits Basket got its reboot (and it was amazing) that this show will get the one it deserves too. One thing I like about the shows equivalent to this volume is the literal light bulb moment when the guys realized that Haruhi was a girl.

Yep, just what I needed to read this week. So silly and fluffy.

Very entertaining and a bit different from the anime. Looking forward to reading more!
