honestly i felt sick reading this. it’s very, very graphic. i might do a more in depth review for anyone thinking about reading this just because of how many content warnings this book has. the writing is immaculate and wonderfully done, but so wonderfully done that everything described and done just leaves a sour taste in your mouth and a turning stomach in its wake. all though i cannot say i enjoyed this book because of this, i do think it was a very well written and disturbing book.

Gila. pertama kali baca bukunya Ryu sensei tp lsg berhasil bikin gue berkata “Gila”.

Ini buku bukan buku yg punya cerita dengan plot detektif kejar kejaran dgn seorang pembunuh berantai atau saling beradu intelektualitas. In the miso soup bercerita ttg pemandu industri malam bernama Kenji yg “terjebak” selama 3 hari 2 malam bersama orang aneh bin ajaib bernama Frank. Perjalanan nyentrik” mereka berhasil membuatku betah berlama-lama utk mengikuti kisahnya. Sempat bosen sih di bbrpa bagian, tapi dari buku ini gue jd tau gambaran kehidupan dunia malam di kota besar Tokyo itu seperti apa.

Walaupun thriller, dan termasuk ke dalam cerita thriller yg terbilang singkat tapi gue rasa buku ini cukup padat scr isian. Terdapat topik lain yg berusaha diangkat oleh penulis spt; fenomena loneliness dan makna hidup masyarakat kota Tokyo. Gue juga suka bagaimana penulis memberikan “analogi” keterkaitan antara Sup miso dan masyarakat kota melalui komentar Frank soal sup miso— mereka hanya hidup mengambang (spt kaldu) di permukaan tanpa tau bagaimana rasanya benar-benar hidup sbg manusia.

Lalu di tutup dengan ending yang.....LAH KOK BISA BEGITU? Membaca endingnya mengingatkan gue dengan akhir cerita dari novel karangan Jeong You Jeong - The Good Son tapi untuk In The Miso Soup lebih menjengkelkan daripada itu. Hhh

Buku ini tidak bisa sembarang gue rekomendasikan, gue sendiri yg suka thriller rada syok pas baca bagian Frank memulai “eksekusinya” . Buat yg gak kuat liat darah, adegan mutilasi, penyiksaan fisik dan semacamnya mending gak usah baca dah, atau pikir-pikir lagi sebelum memutuskan utk baca 👌
