My Grandad suggested this book to me and I was instantly intrigued due to the fact that it was set after WW2. I find that time period really interesting to learn about, and really enjoyed reading what it was like to live in that time. The book was a very interesting and enjoyable read, however there wasn’t really any main storyline to it, which put me off it a little. It was still really good nevertheless. You just can’t help but love the main character/author, Billy, and all the stuff he gets up to.

A good book. But i was expecting something more. Suitable for children and early teenagers.

This is a very well-written book; Bill Brown is a marvellous story teller, and it kept me entertained throughout.
This book scored three stars for the simple reason that the book didn't grip me in the slightest. There was no storyline to it, really. It was a placid and quite uneventful read; the climaxes were not those that thrilled you, they were just a jolt in the pace of the novel.
Nevertheless, I liked the book, and it is well worth a read if you just want to spend some time.
