As someone who enjoys a well-written questionable female protagonist with mental health struggles, the Bell Jar was a highly anticipated read for me. However, it fell flat. I did not find myself relating to the character at all or even understanding all her actions. 

The story was quite boring and very difficult to get into. Personally, I have never been much into classics and this book yet again proved why. I simply think I’m too dumb to fully comprehend a classical book.  The Bell Jar is a revolutionary book for its time, with themes such as identity and what it means to be a woman in society. However, I remained unable to connect to and understand its intricate message. 

I do not think this book is bad. I simply think I am not smart enough for it.
