I was captivated by the beginning right away. The overarching plot that will carry through the series is intriguing and I really want to know how their problems are going to be solved.

I enjoyed how Maddox and his family interacted with each other, how the demons influence their personalities and the complicated nature of having a specific demons inside you. I look forward to seeing more of the guys in future books. I also liked how, with Ashlyn, Maddox accepted his demon and became better connected to Violence. Instead of trying to control Violence, he could let Violence doing his thing without the fear of losing control.

Ashlyn was intriguing. Her powers were unique and at glance seem manageable but when you think about the practicality of having these powers it gets a lot harder to cope. It added some depth to her character. Unfortunately this is really the only depth she seemed to have. I found that Ashlyn didn't have much of a personality other than having these powers that can be silenced by Maddox. I would have liked more explanation on why her powers were silenced in the presence of Maddox, why can't she hear the Lords voices in the play back, why was Violence "tamed" with Ashlyn.

The biggest negative in this book, other than the lack of depth in Ashlyn, was the insta-love. This book mostly takes place over 2 days. There was so much plot happening, in addition to Maddox's curse, there was not a lot of time for the romance to develop. They had a supernatural connection that wasn't explained (no fated-mates) and without any proper conversation I did not see how they could have fallen in love so quickly.

Overall, it was a good set up book for the rest of the Lord of the Underworld series but as a paranormal romance I was a little disappointed.
