This book reminded me a lot of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. However, this book was not a good as the BDB.

Oh my! Percy Jackson for grown-ups...and steamy to boot.

I'm not really into romances where the male lead is so violent and detestable (or self-loathing) that it turns into a "soothing the savage beast" kind of thing. The female lead was more interesting, and the supporting characters were far more interestingly constructed, so I want to continue reading the rest of the series.
adventurous emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This book reminded me of BDB (Black Dagger Brotherhood) however there was less story and more porn. The story is about a group of Warriors who were protectors of the Gods. After Pandora's box is opened the demons held within are all released. While it was entertaining it seemed as if the author was stretching to find content in order to make it flow across the series. Anya was the funniest person in the whole series. While I understand that this is a fiction book it just didn't have the same umpf for me. I don't mind reading a book with lots of sex however I do occasionally like a story and it seemed as though she couldn't get through a few pages without it.

Boring. Poorly written. And weird.

Re-read

Reading this book again, I had a greater like for it than the 1sr time. I hope Reyes is next.

“Until you, my life was desolate. I existed, but I didn’t truly live. Now I live, even in death.”

I’m teetering in my rating because I LOVE the story set up in this first novel, but I think I would have jived more with different main characters. Ashlyn and Maddox aren’t my favorites. Good, but not great. I know several Lords that I’m way more excited to sink my teeth into!

The whole Greek twist with Pandora’s box really sets this series apart for me, and I can’t wait to read the rest! Ancient warriors possessed by demons that represent the cardinal sins of humanity… each finding love? Yes, please. A quest to reclaim Pandora’s box? Also, yes. GIMME TORRIN AND GIDEON’S STORIES NOW, PLEASE.

What I didn’t jive with necessarily was the instant love fest and flirtatious innuendos of the characters. I am sensing a bit of hocus pocus from the Gods or Titans since all of a sudden it’s raining women for these otherwise emotionally unavailable immortals... but still. Danika is way more believable regarding her attraction to Reyes, but still being a sensible human and not just throwing herself over to lust. This chick has her priorities straight. I know Ashlyn is an orphan and all (trust me, the author really hammers it home) but damn.

This novel is intended to be steamy, but some action sequences may have been a bit TOO over the top. And I’m still waiting for our protagonists to have spent more than three seconds together without ripping each other’s clothes off.

Peanut Gallery: “But Persy, they totally waited more than three seconds!”
Me: “Being dead, dying, or terminally ill doesn’t count.”
Peanut Gallery: “...”

Overall, I liked it. I’m willing to push on to more of the series because I think Miss Gena will make it up to me later. Hopefully, with more of the characters that I perceive to be charming and have actual depth. Less of Paris, who is a running gag that may as well run down the hall with peanut butter on his privates being chased by Cerberus. (Honestly wouldn’t be surprised)

Re-reading this after having read most of the rest of the series, I like this book better than I did the first time around. It helps to already know everything that is going on so the huge amount of information isn't so overwhelming. This installment is still probably the weakest of the series, but that is often the case in the first of the series. There was just a little too much cliche "I love you" so quickly, blah blah blah. But still, I liked it. I love the Lords of the Underworld and the women that come into their lives!
