I was really excited for this one, I’m bummed it’s not as good as I wanted it to be.

It started out pretty good and I liked the concept but then it kind of just got a bit repetitive and petered out.

3.5 rounded up because of the satisfying happy ending.

I went back-and-forth about this book, especially as the secrets were revealed. I still don’t understand why everyone was trying so hard to protect Nell. There was a whole lot of drama involved in protecting this one person, and I just didn’t get it.

The Cartographers is a thriller with fantasy elements, but I think the publishers could have done a better job at describing that outside of calling it "imaginative," as the fantasy aspects took me by surprise. I had an enjoyable time listening to this, and the premise was really fascinating, but the writing definitely had its issues. The motivations of the characters are questionable and unrealistic at times, and i found aspects of Nell's and Wallie's personality to be unreasonable for actual people. Alot of other reviews talk also talk about plot holes they identified, but I disagree and found that they were discussed within the book.
