good story. informative. interesting format.

Love Dave Eggers. This is one of his books that I have been meaning to read for a long, time. I have picked it up several times but finally had the opportunity to finish it last weekend.

The story is that of a lost boy from Sudan and his experiences as a child and then as an immigrant. Unfortunately it was not surprising that America did not always put out the welcome mat for these young people who had been through so much.

I can't believe this book isn't at the top of the best selling lists. It is easy to read, engaging, informative, and eye-opening. My view of the world around me will be forever changed for reading this book.

This is not a true autobiography, but a fictionalized story told by Dave Eggers about the life of Valentino Achak Deng, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. It spans about a twenty year period in Deng's life, from when he was a young boy in Southern Sudan, thru the years he spent in refuge camps in Ethiopia and Kenya, and his years living in Atlanta. Eggers has admitted to rearranging the chronology of the story to make the story flow better. But as Salman Rushdie once said, "Fiction are lies that tell the truth." There are lots of truths in this fictional tale.

I average a book a week. I occasionally give a book four stars if it was truly enjoyable. This one earned five from me.

I wish I could give this book 10 stars. It was so amazing. Brilliant, hopeful and unbelievably sad all at the same time. This is the only book I've ever read that made me sob out loud. And I read a lot! Sure, there are books that make you tear up. This wasn't just one or two tears. This book was so amazing and honest and sincere. The narrator goes through so much, and yet never loses hope. This book is a true inspiration. Additionally, it is very well-written. Every sentence has a purpose. In my opinion, even though it was a very ambitious undertaking, there was not a single superfluous word. It was stunningly beautiful. Definitely one of the best books I've ever read.

This almost biography is full of unrelenting sadness. Not a short or easy read. But what parts were fiction?

My favorite story from Hurricane Katrina.

My friend Breann loaned me this book and also gave it an excellent summary, which I'll refer you to as I couldn't do any better. Thanks Breann!

This was the best book I read last year.
