The further along this series goes, the less time is spent describing the dragon training and raising but I can't be too mad because it's slowly being replaced by some wonderful empire building instead. There's still egg raising and manoeuvre creating and flying - but there's also city planning and war tactics now.

If you're this far into the series and you've enjoyed the first two books, there's nothing in this that will immediately turn you away. Characters and relationships still grow in great ways, and the world building continues in the same fashion as the others – in fact, I'd say the world building makes slightly more sense. Things don't just happen without explanation anymore for our main character (much as I love him, he had it remarkably easy in the last book despite joining a whole new military) and instead the whole cast has to methodically plan things.

A great instalment in the series for fans so far, and if you're looking ahead to see if the quality keeps up after book 1, it does!
