I get it, Pauline Viardot viajó a San Petersburgo dos veces, una con tren y otra sin tren.

At times I found the sheer quantity of detail overwhelming, but it does absolutely make one mourn for a united Europe.

Although the book had a lot of interesting information in it, I really had to force myself to continue this one. Ultimately it felt very unfocused because of how much it tried to cover at all times—one moment you will be reading about Turgenev or Viardot, then within the space of a sentence you will be dragged into a full explanation of all of the different opera houses that were being built at any given time and the size, and what it meant for the cities that were building them, and how the public reacted, etc. Three pages later it might finish the point that was being discussed earlier, except by now you've forgotten what that point was.
