Glad I stuck with the series after having middle to negative feelings on the first book because this entry in the series made it worth it. My friend Heidi in part sold this series to me as one of heartbreak of the ways that women's lives are controlled and they are forced to shrink themselves due to patriarchy, and that is just so accurate. There are plenty of moments of celebration as well and I really loved the way the growing political discourse and consciousness of the 1960s and 70s is portrayed in the text.

Spoiler
E anche Elena, a dire la verità. Ma che combini? Ci vuole poco a capire che Lila ha ragione, alla fine del libro.anluluz's review against another edition

- L’obsession de Michele envers Lila est tellement malsaine, mais je trouve ça cute what is wrong with me

IT GOT BETTER! Finally things seem to be moving and shaking. I still dont like Elena but the events in the novel are so interesting.

For this one, I had a hard time finishing the book. I enjoyed Elena's character development, her struggle to have more profound and meaningful endeavors, but the affection towards Nino is just annoying :|
It's like every male character loves Lila, and no female can resist Nino! No matter how rational they are, they are willing to sacrifice everything for them! Sometimes it gets just ridiculous.
Otherwise, I'm enjoying the flow of the events and am willing to read the next book.
