Diana Gabaldon has turned her Lord John Grey character into a very interesting sleuth! There are references to Jamie Fraser (& Claire) in her Lord John stories, but mostly the books are about solving mysterious interlinked crimes and navigating the hazards of being gay in a homophobic society (England in the 1750s or '60s). Fascinating!

she's an ok author but she rambles or twists a bit much. i was half way through the book and wasn't completely sure what the mystery was that we were attempting to solve. more drama than mystery.
