Daddy Crush

This is a short, easy-to-read book that’s mostly well-written and well-paced. The plot is very simple - there isn’t really anything complicated about this book at all - and I appreciated that the author didn’t add in too much additional drama.

Both main characters, Jerusha and Karl, are easy to like and I think they had good chemistry as a couple. I liked the exploration aspect of it, especially for Jerusha learning about love and sex. For a book that is pretty much just about an older man teaching an inexperienced girl about sex (with a daddy kink thrown in), it’s mostly just quite a sweet book. I liked that Karl was very strong on promoting boundaries and respecting Jerusha’s space and wishes, and that he never pressured her to do more than she was comfortable with. I also thought he had some sweet bits of dialogue about love and how he felt about her.

There were other things I liked about it. I think this is one of the first romance books I’ve ever read where a woman is described as having leg and armpit hair (even as stubble), and that this is included in a description of how beautiful and attractive she is, which I thought was a nice moment. Similarly, there was a really well-written masturbation scene in the book.
SpoilerJerusha masturbates alone, and the scene is beautifully done - it’s sexy but also oddly emotional. The use of anatomical terms - labia, clitoris, vagina, mons, etc., and including her admiring her own pubic hair - combined with the language about God and her personal feelings that her body was partly made for pleasure, made for a really lovely scene where you get to see how much Jerusha has learned about herself since she left her parents.

There are also some really pretty, lovely descriptive passages that really set the scene for me. My favourites were
SpoilerI blink back to the dim room, a light smell of dog, my too-soft sofa. A car drives by outside, the sound of water under their tires. I almost can’t believe the world’s moved on while we kissed. It doesn’t seem possible.” and “...to her hand. Her skin, stretched over tiny, delicate bones, is tough, her knuckles scarred, fingertips rough like mine. I kiss her, then slot my fingers between hers and tighten my hold, overwhelmed by something dark and protective.
It’s just lovely.

I wasn’t keen on it being in present tense, as a personal preference. Aside from that - whilst I enjoyed it and I thought there were some beautiful moments, it’s not something I think I’d reread. It was good, but maybe not very memorable to me. I think I want to love it, because I did enjoy a lot about it, but there’s something about it, as a whole, that stops me from describing it as a favourite. I can’t quite put my finger on what that is, though. I’m glad I read it, though. There was definitely more to it than your average age-gap/daddy kink romance, and I appreciated that.

I would recommend it if you want a light, quick read with an age gap romance, an inexperienced heroine and a dash of daddy kink.

Content Warnings:
SpoilerMild violence, sexual harassment, heroine is from an unspecified (as far as I’m aware), very strict Christian community - she is estranged from most of her family.

Age gap romance. Teach me how to fuck. Virgin and the neighbor. No surprise marriage or pregnancy! Coming from religious background. Sex as joyful. Daddy/slut.

Irritating

Jerusha has been raised in a super strict religious home and breaks free to be an artist. She meets the hottie older daddy next door and it’s game on! She decides that she wants Karl to be the guy to teach her about sexy time.

Karl thinks his young neighbor is hot but too young fir him. But after coming to her rescue one night he can’t stay away.

Such a cute love story. The characters are defined well enough and there isn’t a messy major conflict getting in the way of our path to an HEA. Yes, there are hot and heavy sexy times but the core of the story is a sweet love story and I love it!!

Well 3 years later and this book didn’t hold up to time. It was an ok time, but I found myself annoyed at how quirky the girl was and how annoying the hero was. The book wasn’t anywhere near as hot as I remembered it being. Maybe books in the last 3 years have upped the bar and now older books just don’t compare?
