Bref, passez votre chemin.

This book just oozes with eccentric charm. It contains many elements that I love. A Wallflower, writing letters/pen pals, bookstores, love of reading, the Midwest, cross-cultural experience, a dash of love interest and a whole lot of quirkiness. The result is utterly endearing. I was so happy that I bought this after glimpsing it in a fabulous bookstore. These small town characters had me thinking that maybe I should give living in a small town a chance.
I just wish I had a bookstore and proprietor this wonderful near me.
Also, I really want this book to be made into a movie. I think it would be delightful.

There were parts of this book that I absolutely LOVED—I’m a sucker for a cute book about books, especially when it involves international pen pals! Unfortunately, this book also felt really overdone at times; it almost seemed that the author/publishers were determined to cram in every modern fiction trope that they possibly could in the second half of the book. If you can overlook the predictable themes and don’t mind spoilers about other books, then you’ll probably enjoy this book!
P.S. The fact that the author is from Sweden really comes through in much of the book, especially in regards to subliminal opinions expressed on religion and rural America. If you’re from Iowa, proceed with caution

Quirky, strange, a little awkward, and all together lovable. This goes for the story and the characters both. It's a bit slow-moving but it gives you time to get to know the people in the book, to feel the town, its sorrows and its joys, and to fall in love with all of it. I always love a book about books, and this one did not disappoint.
