Oh man where do I start…

The Positives:

First let me say I LOVE Emma and Travis. They’re both such different people who understand each other so well, which was reflected not only by working together but just how they interacted and comforted each other as well. I really liked Emma as a character. She was so tough oh herself but she also was self-aware of it too.

Simon was definitely unsettling with his interactions with Emma. I could picture him in my head and it sent chills down my spine, and knowing about the crimes he did just added another layer of unsettling feelings.

The Negatives:

The pacing of this story was so SLOW to me, and it almost lost me 50% of the way through. I was to pumped to jump into this book, but then I was just bored for nearly half of it. When Emma first interviewed Simon I thought “oh this is where it’s going to pick up” but then it just… fell off again.

Also, I would have LOVED more about Emma and Travis together. Yes they worked well together and they really cared about each other, but we didn’t see much more than that. Hell, I got more from Simon and Emma and that’s crazy because one of them is a SERIAL KILLER!

Also, the stuff with Simon’s sister was kind of random to me.

I relented anyway and continued and just… read the book with low expectations in the end. I’m glad to say the ending was okay, but overall it was meh. I am sad that Travis and Emma split, but it’s understandable that Emma would NOT want to be in another situation like this again, especially after the Huxton stuff too.

3.5/5⭐️
I’ll read the sequel because I wanna know what happens, but I’m not going to rush into it or have high expectations either.
