This book was really tense and gripping, I couldn’t put it down. The characters were also really interesting and I loved the scenes between Emma and Simon.

Also the last 100 pages were so intense and there were so many reveals that genuinely shocked me! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!

If you’re a fan of thrillers and true crime, I’d definitely recommend this.

None Shall Sleep takes place in 1982 and follows Emma Lewis, serial killer survivor, and Travis Bell, US Marshall candidate, when they’re recruited by the FBI to do the one thing they can’t, get teenaged serial killers to talk in order to provide advice on cold cases. But what happens when their study and an ongoing case in Pennsylvania collide? What happens when Emma has to interview one of the most genius and notorious serial killers alive? Simon Gutmunsson, notorious serial killer, seems to be cooperative, talking to Emma and providing clues. But...is he really helping them or is he playing a game too?

Now, you all know I don’t read a lot of YA because I’m usually annoyed with it...

BUT THIS BOOK?!?!

This book was a mix of Criminal Minds, Silence of the Lambs, and Red Dragon all rolled into one, but with young adult main characters and I LOVED IT. I thought the character development was strong and the psychological aspects of the plot were really interesting. I was both creeped out and intrigued by the charming serial killer Simon, and rooting for Emma and Travis the whole time.

SPEAKING OF EMMA! She is a bad ass character. I love bad ass female leads. I also love how Travis notices her bad ass-ness and is not intimidated and supports her. They have such a great friendship and partnership in this story and it warms my heart in between all the murder stuff...

I binged this book like I binge Criminal Minds episodes on TV. I mean...Can we say, page turner?! I could read a whole series with these characters and then solving serial killer cases *hint, hint* PLEASE WRITE MORE OF THESE BOOKS @elliemarney 😭😭

If you want a suspenseful psychological thriller? A book with protagonists you love to root for? A strong female lead? Pick this up!!

Might bump the rating up or down with more time. I think the real target market for this book enjoys reading/listening/learning about serial killers much more than I do. The 1982 setting allowed me to accept the premise of the Killer Interview program and the participation of 18 year-olds in it a little more, and truly what shone for me was Emma and Mr. Bell.

ALSO, I don't read a lot of thrillers and YA thrillers especially are typically not my jam but this had a LOT of tension. I actually had to put it down for two days about 50 pages from the end because I was so afraid or what could happen on the next page.

First thing I'm going to say about this is that this book is, in essence, a Hannibal copy. That's how the book is, plain and simple. It borrows a lot of elements both from Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs. Is that a bad thing? Nope. It's just that if you've read the books or watched the movies and/or TV shows, you know exactly where this book is leading. Which is the case for me. I'm a Hannibal super fan, so I know the various stories inside and out. And that made me enjoy the book for using elements and making the story its own, I also felt that the book was too close at times. I enjoyed the characters in this, the setting of the early 80s, and the twist of this being with teens rather than adults, but it wasn't amazing. A really good book and I do hope that it doesn't force itself into a series, but didn't blow me away.
