I have never read any sci fi (unless Jurassic Park counts) so this was my first time reading any.

I had it on kindle some months and picked it up on audible yesterday during a sale. Having no book on the go I thought I would give it a go.

What a very interesting and scary read, scary not in terms of horror but in terms of what may be out there. It was very eye opening and I can see why people think so highly of it. I can imagine the impact it would have had at the time and how it inspired people in their interests of space and the cosmos.

It was a great read and superb from start to finish, I would have liked a bit more depth in the characters.

The ending I need to read again to understand it properly. I will for sure check out the film in coming weeks.

A great read, if you're going to start reading sci fi, no better place than starting at the top.

4.5 rounded up.

I haven’t watched the movie or know anything about it!
I picked up the book because it’s a science fiction classic. I liked some of the ideas in the book about how aliens manipulated us millions of years ago on our journey to become humans. I liked the journey into space and reaching Saturn. I loved how it continued through the galaxy and then leaving the galaxy into the unknown. At first I thought he went into a dark hole but I’m not sure anymore. Entertaining book. Not much character development though. I still don’t know much about David Bowmen.

I read Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey in anticipation of seeing Stanley Kubrick's film version next weekend at The Carolina Theatre! This book is every bit as excellent and fascinating as the film that it accompanied. I am so looking forward to seeing it on the big screen! This is a fantastic tale.

For now this wil get 3 stars, mostly because I didn"t actually enjoy the book. I haven't seen the movie (yet) and I was under the impression it would be mostly a thriller about an evil super computer. It is, but only briefly. Otherwise it seems to be equal parts technological speculation (both frightningly right and hilariously wrong) and 'where do we come from where do we go' ideas. It's less of a story and more excruciatingly detailed hypotheses loosely strung together, especially the last halve or so. Definitely a book of importance, but regretably not a personal favorite.

(Audio) Fun book,  Clarke's forecasting and imagination was really enjoyable to go through, especially given this was written in the 60s. Excited to watch the movie for the first time soon
