This one was yet another unknown Lovecraft's work to me.
I have to say that story itself was highly intriguing. While starting up as a story about a young man trying to find out more about his family history it very soon becomes a very Twilight-like tale with a rather strong twist. Ending was on par with the ending of Hitchock's Psycho, sad and disturbing at the same time.
Art is excellent (as it was case with all Lovecraft books prepared by I.N.J. Cullbard), flow of story, and overall visual presentation is so cinematic that it seems like it was created on a basis of movie scene-by-scene drawings. Truly wonderful.

Lovecrafts strength fully realized in that his prose can be trimmed into lean sirloin strips while artists go buckwild with their interpretations.

I quite like Lovecraft's stories, but they don't always lend themselves to the graphic novel format. This one suffered from adaptation boredom. In the original writing the atmospheric weirdness adds to the mystery, where here it just falls flat as another old white man 'reads' a letter aloud. I dunno, there are just so many more visually appealing Lovecraft stories to adapt.

This is another of my favourite Lovecraft stories. A young man, Charles, with a love of history & mysteries. He was lured into the past failing in strength to put down what he called up.

I've not read the original novella, so I don't know how the descriptions stand up to those by Lovecraft, but whether or not its a good adaptation, it's a helluva fun story. I'm looking forward to consuming more stories by Lovecraft, both in the original and in adaptations such as this one.

Much like the original, it's long winded and convoluted, but he payoff is still there I guess? Not my favorite story in the collected Culbard anthology

I have never read Lovecraft and was happy to have this as a starting point. The work felt cohesive - perhaps I benefitted from never having read the original. This was a good place to start for me with Lovecraft and I might seek out more, but I particularly enjoy the creepy reads in graphic novel form so my first check might be for more of the same.

Meh. It was a little more legible than the original Lovecraft story, but it felt like the adapter jumped around a lot and it was still hard to follow.
