There is a lot here and if you are interested in serial killers or true crime in general this is great read. I feel like I will go back to this a few more times because it throws so much information at you there is no way to retain much of it. A lot of reviewers have noted that it gets repetitive because many killers fall into different categories and they are not wrong, you will constantly being hearing about Albert fish, Ed Gein, Dahmer and all the other heavy hitters. But it is still a good read. This is best enjoyed it bite size portions instead of reading the whole thing at once.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was a great introduction to a few serial killers I had not heard about, and information on many that we are familiar with. Great book overall!

There are a lot of things about this book that I consider both good and bad. For me, perhaps the main sins are the author's feeling that everything is about sexual perversion and environment being the primary source of serial killers. I am certain that many studies support such ideas, but I have a hard time taking this from correlation to causality. I am much more a believer in gray for all things. The world just isn't that simple.

That said, there were many strengths to the text. I was introduced to individual serial killers that I knew of, but not really about. It has led me to pick up more material on these. I hate to say it, but I sit firmly atop the fence as to how I feel about this book.

It was interesting for a while, but then it became incredibly repetitive. I couldn't finish it.

Interesting, disturbing, and at times stomach turning. It effectively dispells the popular image of serial killers. The only frustration with the book is its repetativeness due to it’s organization.

absolutely the most complete media about the subject! absolutely loved it.
it not only chooses to explore more less known serial killers but it also does a wonderful job at truly explaining the phenomenon. from motive, to psyche, to genre, to race, everything is looked upon. it even ends with a wonderful recommendation list of different media and arts about serial murders (fictional and not)!

if true crime interests you, you absolutely NEED to read this one!
