Confusing, disconnected, and tried too hard to be clever.

This was an enjoyable "pulp" sci-fi yarn, about an alien taken over of earth and how the survivors fight back. It has conspiracy theories, witches, down-at-heel PIs, femme fatales, and all the other constituents of a good pulp yarn.

The best bit is however that it's narrated by John Waters, which alone is worth the price of admission. To hear him attempt an English accent at one point is a thing of beauty in its terribleness. But he really is the perfect narrator for this book. If a movie was ever made of the book he would be the perfect director.

This entire story had a very fanfiction/B movie feel to it, but overall I liked it. I found the writing style grating at first, but I found myself so invested in seeing where the story led that I eventually realized I didn't care enough to put the book down.

John Waters was the perfect narrator for an entertaining, bad-taste (which I mean as kindly as possible) book.

Started off strong but tapered out towards the middle. Probably won't ever finish this. Also parts were pretty disturbing.

Picked it up for the narrator. Just a *meh* story for me. But note I don't really read Sci-Fi.

Parts were okay or even interesting, but mostly it was just junk.

Made it about 50% and it's a bit far nope.

Shock factor and random killing and random twists don't make a good book.

I tried to finish because it was short but I just...nope.

Narration was not good either in my opinion.

After 2 hours into the audiobooks I just didn't pick it up anymore, so decided to DNF. Wasn't into the story, didn't like the many characters that lacked everything but a name and minimal inormation/cahracterization. The story failed to grab me at all.
Admittedly I went into this blind so maybe I could have known it wasn't for me if I had heard someone talk about it.

- weird self narration rambling chapters over analyzing and conspiracy-ish
- confusing how it jumps around, were we ever actually introduced to Larry? Like who he is, his storyline is very random too.
- creepy this is a foreign virus taking over and people are going crazy and have masks and shit and this was released in 2019.... still sci-fi so not totally covid because it's clearly alien of some variety but still creepy. (Not a reason for stopping but wasn't helping either.)
