Los libros clásicos tienen otro ritmo, más pausado, algunos gustan más y otros menos. Este se me ha hecho muy lento en ocasiones y muy largo en general.

3 stars for part 3. The last part was as interesting as the first 2 parts were slow. It was so very descriptive of every little scene, house, person and city that it was difficult getting through some of the pages.
I love the drama the last part has, even though the main characters aren't very likeable, it's very well written in the end. It starts to feel familiar and one is reminded of the 'french-ness' of it all

I've read Madame Bovary because I bought a Dutch 'Banned Books' series published by 'de Volkskrant', it contains 20 books that were once censored / banned. Madame Bovary is also in the BBC Big Read Top 100, which is one of my life reading goals.
I love reading literature, most of the time it is beautifully written, and they make you think. This book did make you think, and the lesson I got out of it is to be happy with what you have.
But still, I didn't enjoy this book that much. This could be the translation, but I guess the story didn't appeal to me, because I found it rather boring at times.
Also I've read several reviews where they call Madame Bovary a heroine, and I've been trying to wrap my head around WHY people see her as a heroine? Please explain, because she seems like the worst rolemodel to me.

I really enjoyed this classic. I felt like I lived in the town square, knew the people well, and couldn’t help watch Emma’s tragedy unfold through my fingers.

Holy shit it took me about three years to read this book. Finally, FINALLY finished. I'm hiding this in the back of my bookshelf so I don't have to look at it again for a long time.
Madame Bovary is the quintessential tale of a woman realizing her power when it was very unpopular for a woman to do so. Madame Bovary, in this book, fully lives the life she desires to live, even though she has to hide that life for most of the time. One of the best in the woman-coming-to-terms-with-herself type of genre.
Not the first time I've worked through a classic to better understand Blair Waldorf. Won't be the last. Maybe next I'll read something to help deconstruct Serena. The Pokey Little Puppy, perhaps?
