I would give this story 5 stars but to be honest I think that my kids would only give it 3.5 It rang true much more for me having grown up in South Asia.

The artwork in this book is lovely.
It's about a young child who is curious about the dot on his mother's forehead, and begins to wear it himself.
I love the message about not conforming to gender roles and being yourself.
I'm also thrilled to find a story that is not white and centered on western cultural norms.

I did have some trouble scanning some of the lines of verse in this book, but otherwise I quite enjoyed it.

This was utterly beautiful. The art, the story, the message, the feel... all of it wonderfully beautiful.

I do wish there was a bit more information about the significance of a bindi though, but it is a children’s book so I don’t expect long explanations.
