No hard feelings, i just realized this book was not what i needed but the author put her RESEARCH in this book and it shows perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone who likes outlander, i didnt but hoped i would still love this :/

I read this book following the Outlander series because I missed the characters. Later in her series Ian from Outlander crosses over into this story. It takes place in the late 1700s. A girl travels into the wildress with her father. There the story begins and goes in lots of directions. It is a good historical fiction with some romance too.
I did like the book, although it took me until the end to decide whether I REALLY liked it (which is why the 3 stars, instead of 4). I thought the character development really did not show up until the last 1/2 of the book. The first half just seemed to be Elizabeth and Nathanial having a lot of "intimate" moments...all of the time (really, who does it EVERY time they see their loved one??) Anyway, I did request the 2nd in the series and I am excited to see how the story continues. I had no idea that it was a 6 book series when I picked it up!!! I hope that each book improves, just like this book got better as the reading continued.

I was so glad to sink my teeth into this series after I was finished the outlander series. Another light but gripping saga to enjoy over many books, just what i was looking for!
I tried... I really did... but this book was just very slow. I mean, it was a bit interesting at times, but for the most part it was just robotic dialogue and characters that I didn't find interesting. The FMC was a bit whiney and I didn't really care what happened to her and the MMC was just as uninteresting. I had to MAKE myself read on, I kept hoping it'd get more interesting but I just thought it sucked.

this shit smacked so hard.. honestly think this was better than outlander tbh. the couple was emotionally mature but still preserved the tension, everyone was intelligent and capable and yet realistic in situations where they were out of their depth, the cultural things between the english settlers and the kanien'keháka were handled nicely and with respect. good shit!
plot did meander a little bit from thing to thing but that's fine imo, the story was about nathaniel and elizabeth just surviving, and there were enough arcs that started and closed that it did feel like a contained story.i kind of wish that the thing with the brother had been resolved a bit more neatly, but i do get that this isn't the kind of story where everything is neat and tidy, so it's nbd.
