I was so bored the first time with this book that I stopped reading after the first few chapters. A couple years later I picked it up again and made it through most of it and was still not impressed and put it down again. The writing is a bit cheesy and the plot line is tedious and anti-climactic. I like the Outlander series way better as her plot continually escalates throughout.

Meh, the characters weren't that interesting and I'd rather read about more "romantic" historical time periods in other countries. I don't really find this time period and specific location of the USA romantic haha

Overall I liked the story but I just feel like there was too much of it. I was about 40% of the way through and thought “this would be a good ending” and then it just kept going. And going. That happened so many times I lost track. I feel like it could have been condensed and that would have made everything a bit more exciting. Also she clearly knew it was gonna be a series based on the way the book ended, so we didn’t neeeed to cram everything in.

Felt very familiar after having read some of Diana Gabaldon's books. Refreshingly different from them though! I enjoyed Elizabeth but didn't really fall for Nathaniel. Something was lacking...
