It’s a no for me. Tried reading this book multiple times and just could not get into it. I think it tried too much to be like Outlander, but didn’t quite get there. This is part of a series, but I only read this one book. I just couldn’t do it.

Blah

I don’t understand why I have to write a 20 page review but here is me killing the 20 pages

Epic story. Wonderful read

I am a huge fan of historical novels, and this one hit the mark! I came here after reading Outlander. I wanted to find something similar, and this was it! I wouldn’t say it is incredibly similar, but it has a similar feel. Worth the read.

DID NOT FINISH

Just ran out of time on the library loan and my mood moved on to other books

I loved this book, I really did. I couldn’t put it down from the moment I started it. As much as I adored this book, I couldn’t help but feel like Donati is a little TOO detailed in her descriptions. I often found myself frustrated by the long, detailed explanations of every tree, every piece of scenery, and every new facial expression and minute action by the characters. She paints a wonderful picture, she really does. I just found myself start skimming those long details about halfway through the book. The action was too exciting!

What a weird book. I started it, became intensely absorbed, rolled my eyes and cringed at a few parts, then started chugging along, and finally I skipped to the end, enough to satisfy my curiosity about some of the supporting characters. Something about the two main characters, Elizabeth and Nathaniel, just didn't work for me. Outlander has been the ONLY historical romance that I could handle. Yeah, there are eye-rolling cringe scenes in that book too, but not as many as Into the Wilderness. I just couldn't really see much chemistry between Nathaniel and Elizabeth, and the bodice-ripping parts made it too much like a plain romance novel (which I mostly abhor). Chances are pretty good I won't read any more in the series, but I liked parts of this one enough that if I'm bored and it's around, I might read it.

historical romance. well written for its genre. like a soap opera they go from one crisis to another. the main characters are beautiful and succeed at everything. long light read.
