Veronica Roth has this way of spinning a story so that it grips you whole, captivating you from the first word to the last. Experienced this with both the Divergent series and now the Carve the mark one. Thankfully, this time I didn't end the series sobbing - yay she spared us *happy dance*

I'm putting this book on hold for a while. The first one was amazing and I couldn't get enough of it. However, this one is a bit disappointing. It's slow, and the pov changing with the first to third person when it comes to the two characters is annoying. So, so far, a slow start. Maybe, when I pick it up again, things will get better later on.

While I did enjoy book 1, I enjoyed book 2 so much more! The pacing just worked better in this one. I absolutely love her use of oracles and abilities. Her use of them is so unique.

I wish that the separation would’ve happened farther into the book, but from what I remember it happens at about the halfway point. The different POVs were much better in this book. The changes seemed more even and we got several other POVs as well.

While I did see the twist coming, I still loved it!

I will say that these books are incredible sad. There are very few happy moments (maybe that’s why I liked the first part of this book so much!), and our characters lead such sad lives. But they live in a difficult world, so it makes sense.

This series just wasn’t really it for me. Hard to get into and stay focused. Enjoyed it while I was reading, took me forever to finish tho

A wonderful conclusion to this weighty series about fate and family. This series has such a vivid world and vibrant characters. I really appreciate how everything wrapped up in the end and feel quite satisfied with the ending. This world has such an interesting magic system and a diverse cast of characters and world building. It deals with some heavy topics and is a bit violent and mildly graphic, but it is befitting to the cultures and issues highlighted in this world. I would definitely be interested in reading more set in this world, but I suspect our main characters stories are done.

World-building continues to dominate this second part of the duology. Akos becomes more relatable and Cyra develops a crew.

"ᴛʜᴏꜱᴇ ᴡʜᴏ ɢᴏ ʟᴏᴏᴋɪɴɢ ꜰᴏʀ ᴘᴀɪɴ, ꜰɪɴᴅ ɪᴛ ᴇᴠᴇʀʏᴛɪᴍᴇ." -Ylira Noavek.

TW: Murder, Poison.

Two words: PLOT TWIST

This book follows the wake of absolute chaos that followed after the end of the first book. And it's safe to say no one- AND I MEAN NO ONE- will see the plot twist coming.

In the beginning of #thefatesdivide , none of the characters know where they fit in or which side that truly belong. The growth of the characters are exceptional and the book's highlight is the growth of friendship rather than the relationship of the main characters. Amongst all that; alliances shift, assassinations are planned and everyone has their own agendas.

Cyra finally finds out the power she holds- As a Noavek heir and her current gift and Akos finds himself centered and defined by one goal.

The ending is bittersweet and is narrated in the most perfect way encompassing and end to individual characters stories.

All in all, this duology was a 4- star rating.

Lovely amazing Sapphic read, with spice and such great characters. Loved all the ways that neurodivergency was included in this story, and the mutual pining.
