Rocannon's world feels so similar to The King of Elfland's Daughter. That feel of humanity bumping into myth and something far beyond the human understanding. It's really interesting and fun to read these tropes bump into the world of science fiction. I don't think that Rocannon's World has the same kind of weight as The Dispossessed or The Left Hand of Darkness, but it's still an interesting look at colonialism and imperialism on a widespread level. Rocannon is our protagonist, and at the same time, it's his actions that encourage the destruction of the world. I was left unsettled, and I think intentionally so, at the revelation at the ending over the naming of the planet. Of renaming and claiming a land over its original inhabitants as part of an intergalactic war they had no part in creating or way of resisting being drafted into.
