A moving story about generational trauma, accepting and healing from childhood abuse, and finding reflections of yourself in generations since passed. Alan does a great job bouncing between what lighthearted stories he's able to tell, and the darker more emotional parts of his past, as well as the past of his father and grandfather. Cried more than once, but I really appreciate the openness and honesty of his story.

Wow, this was a lot. I cannot commend Alan Cumming enough for sharing his story, this story, in such a beautiful way. Hearing his narration as he recounted his traumatic and triumphant memories was an amazing experience, and I’m so glad I listened. There were a few moments, especially at the end and when he shared memories of his grandmother, where he made me cry — justifiably, I think. This was a wonderful memoir, and I highly recommend it to readers even unfamiliar with Cumming himself.
