I expected.... more? I know this was written at the beginning of the 20th century but it was so boring! There is a meme saying that they just go to each other's houses and I agree.

Their mom is the worst. I couldn't stand the selfishness. I guess her only goal in life / responsibility as a mother was to marry off her daughters.

There were some captivating parts

I got this edition specifically to read the commentary by Vivien Jones, but by the time I was done reading I didn't feel like spending more time on this book.

I love this book so much. I come back to it over and over because the story is so well-crafted and the drama is entirely earned. Austen does satire in such a playful way, but if you think about what she's criticising for any length of time you feel the deep injustices inherent in the social system she writes about. This time I was following Darcy's perspective more than I usually do and it was a really rewarding experience to see how often he smiled when Elizabeth was involved. It's just so nice to reread a favourite.

Not sure if this kind of story is for me, but the writing was exceptionally beautiful, it was just a little bland for me on the drama  part. Amazing writing and great book tho

Pride and Prejudice is one of those classic novels that will never become irrelevant in life. So many different themes within this book can be tied to things going on in our current society - whether it's the relationships between men and women, the different emotions women feel and pressures from society, and even female empowerment and acting against societal standards, going against the grain to make a point and stand up for one's self.
I took a Jane Austen literary analysis class my senior year in college, so by analyzing this novel I was given a new appreciation for Austen's work. I wrote a research/analytical paper about women's themes in Austen's literature, and I find myself going back to that work when I read Austen's novels - it just never gets old. But I also have a strong appreciation for this genre overall, including the work of the Bronte sisters, Elizabeth Gaskell, etc.
My opinion is that once Jane Austen is given a closer look, and read thoroughly, it's quite easy to love her work. Some wonderful movies have been made from her work as well (Keira Knightley's version of Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorites, as it sticks very close to the original manuscript).
It's one of those books I could read at least once a year, if not more.
