This was a recent bookclub pick and it unfortunately wasn’t one I enjoyed that much. . .
The writing is great, it is nothing to do with the author’s ability to write, it just isn’t the type of book I would usually pick up. But as it was a bookclub pick I was happy to give it a go.
It was very slow paced to the point that not much really happened. It was dull and I didn’t feel any attachment to any of the characters.
I think it is a heartwarming story and it was great how a community of people all get together to help in a garden. The friendships and relationships that develop are sweet. There are characters from a mixture of diverse backgrounds and it was a nice idea having them all learn about each other. I just didn’t click with the story and I ended up skim reading a lot of it. It felt like a story that would be on the Hallmark channel which really isn’t for me.
I can see why people would enjoy this book as I think it could have been an emotional story if I had connected to it, it just had nothing in it that grabbed me and made me want to read it. I probably should have dnf’d it but I hate doing that. I really need to get more ruthless 😂
I have heard good things about this author’s previous book The Reading List so maybe that might appeal to me more.
