A delight to listen to! I love that John Paul gives advice but is well aware that he is flawed and doesn’t have all of the answers.

How would anyone not like this book? Hola Papi was a fun audiobook. I found myself experiencing many emotions: tenderness when his mother looked back at his childhood, sadness and anger at some of his toxic partners, pride at his identity and intelligence. I really can't imagine anyone picking up this book (or audiobook) and being disappointed. It's exactly what you'd think: advice columnist sharing personal experiences through their advice column career.

I listened to the audiobook of ¡Hola Papi! (read by the author) while driving and found it to be a compelling, relatable, honest memoir. I appreciated the format of the book--extended snippets of memoir expanding from advice column questions. Brammer tells the stories of his life thoughtfully and skillfully. He also touches on interesting questions of life as a professional writer, cycles of violence, advice-giving, and gay identity, which I found really resonant.

The book did its job as a memoir: opening my eyes to another person's life, inviting me to think about my own life in new ways, sharing funny stories that are also painful and also heartfelt at the same time. I was excited to listen to it and was satisfied when I was done, glad I had chosen this book to accompany me on a long solo drive. Nothing absolutely blew my mind about the book, but it is a well-written and easy-to-read book that I would recommend.
