Damn, started this because I love the show with all my heart and it was so amazing to read the source material, to get behind every scene in the show that I wanted more from. The book gave me all the dialogue I never knew I needed and had me so drawn in every time I sat down to read. Could read this again and again.

I don't really know how to put my review into words. It's a very intense, dark, and disturbing book. I was unsure I'd be able to finish it. I did not read what this book was about. I saw the cover and one quote on the front of the book. That's what I get for judging a book by the cover. It's a bad habit I have. I put the book down telling myself I wasn't going to finish. In fact I opened another book up and started to read it. While reading the other book, I kept thinking about this one and if justice was served. That's when I found myself reading this book again. Her writing is great. She really knows how to draw you in. Had I known what was in this book, I wouldn't have read it. I can't say that I'd recommend it unless you have absolutely zero triggers because this book is full of them. Almost every page has one. This is her debut novel. What a way to start your career. It's hard for me to rate this book. Did she suck me in? Yes. Did it disturb the hell out of me? 1,000% yes. Did I enjoy the book? Unknown. Will it live rent free in my head for far too long? Yup. I usually have a star rating system, but I can't use that for this book, because by no means does it need to be up on someones TBR. Unless you absolutely can leave your feelings and your stomach at coat check. I'll be rating it based on her writing, her ability to grab my attention, and need more. For that I have to give her five stars. Read at your own risk. Check the trigger warnings and READ what the book is about before you crack it open.

This doesn’t even feel like a debut novel bro ily Gillian Flynn.

this book was twisted and uncomfortable and tense and honestly… kinda nasty, but not in the way you’d think. Sharp Objects is disturbing and nasty in the character work, Camille is mentally troubled and always drunk, Adora is negligent and mysterious, Amma is promiscuous and petty, the town and it’s people feel like they’re drowning you. The book isn’t at all gore oriented, and tho i went into it expecting that I’m not mad at all that i didn’t get that

The whole murder mystery part was very interesting and the unreliable narrator that Camille is had me second guessing and yea I got it wrong but the fucking irony is that I underlined so many things that incriminate the actual killer but I was like not connecting the dots.
One thing I’m not sure if i did or didn’t like was Camille’s history of self harm and how it ties, or doesn’t, to the plot. I wish they would’ve had a bigger role in uncovering who did it but in the end i get why it’s not done cuz it wouldn’t make sense but it would’ve been cool as some sort of misleading hidden-in-plain-sight clue

Overall it was a fantastic introduction to the author, makes me excited to see how i feel about her other books

“When denied access to other body parts, men become fixated on the ear” idk if was just me but there’s so much to unpack with that quote
“I think illness sits inside every woman, waiting for the right moment to bloom. I have known so many sick women all my life. Women with chronic pain, with ever-gestating diseases. Women with conditions. Men, sure, they have bone snaps, they have backaches, they have a surgery or two, yank out a tonsil, insert a shiny plastic hip. Women get consumed.”
“Hurt as a form of flirtation. Pain as intimacy”
“Depression to me is urine yellow, washed out, exhausted miles of weak piss”

The fact that this is Gillian Flynn’s debut, is insane. Respectfully, the woman is unhinged LOL but the book was fantastic. Read it in two days. I was enamored with the story and couldn’t wait to find out the identity of the killer. Overall, the plot twist was well played out and I didn’t find it to be cheesy. I also didn’t see it coming. Fantastic book, it gets a 4, only because the plot twist was good, but I’ve read better. I’d recommend this to anyone who loves mystery. The self harm gets pretty graphic, I did have to take a break for a little bit, probably the only dislike about it. Anyone who likes fast paced suspenseful novels would love this book.

Book was pretty flat and so were the characters but it proved interesting especially
in the end with the Amma plot twist. You could sort of see it coming and it was so close to the end that it wasn't really enough to help the rest of the book but I’m glad it was there
