The author fit SO much into this book…it’s a Succession-esque story of a very wealthy family at war over who will inherit what…but it’s also a story of holding the values of your ancestors, fighting stereotypes, messy family drama, and the lifestyles of the fabulously rich.  Add to that a possible murder mystery, a love story, a breaking of the fourth wall, found family and the reevaluation of life goals.  It could have been a disaster, but Renee Ahdieh made it work!  This book is a ride, and a slow one much of the time.  Still, it was fascinating and I’m glad I read it.

I won this in a giveaway and I might not have picked it off a shelf, but I really enjoyed it. Silly but subtly meta and somehow like sweetly profound in it's message. Layered characters and plot, and cultural authenticity. The only things I didn't like were the annoying interspersed "dear reader" blah blah blah bits, annoying amount of repetition whining about the ex-bf & emotional inner turmoil stuff, and the annoying voice the narrator decided to use for the house manager.
