Flatiron, thank you so much for my free advanced reader copy of Renée Ahdieh's, 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘈𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘦. This was my first time branching out into a book that was primarily women's contemporary fiction. I was drawn to the book because of the author. I love fantasy books and I had her other books marked as "to read" for my bookclub this year. Therefore, I decided to give this book a try as well! I loved the vibe of the book the minute I started reading it. I was a little worried since it was my first time reading a book like this but it ended up being a very enjoyable read! The characters are what really drew me in. They are very well written and are three-dimensional. Renée is very talented at creating characters that are relatable but also flawed in their own ways. I loved Suzy, at times, because she made me laugh. I also loved Jia's thoughts because I love how she cares about working hard but also has personal goals for herself that matter a lot to her. This book also had lots of "Gossip Girl" vibes with the weathly Manhatten scene as well as the narrator chapters in between Jia's POV chapters. The luxury brands definately made the aesthetic for this book as well. One of my favorite chapters was "A Future Filled With Green". It made me tear up and I just felt so happy for the character involved in this chapter. Even though things get way better after. The plot was medium paced and Renee would also throw in different ideas for possible suspects. Which kept me guessing! There was a lot of travel involved which I loved. I really liked learning about Jia and her thoughts about traveling. Overall, this book was very well written and enjoyable. I would definately reccomend to anyone who loves mysteries, fashion brands, food, and stories with lots of drama. The ending was perfect and if you like twists then you will love it!

ARC Review
Thank you to Flatiron Books for my free copy of this book.
Jia Song has just made junior partner, making it one step closer to senior partner. And now her boss is giving her the perfect opportunity to make that happen sooner. She will work with the Park family, a Korean family who made their fortune in the beauty industry. But now their father is divorcing their mother to be with his pregnant mistress and claiming they only have 25 million dollars. Though they are supposed to be worth close to a billion. So the kids hire the law firm to find out where the money is. Jia is chosen because she to is Korean, but she will make the best of it. Follow her across the world as she tries to find the money, learn more about this family and the members, and maybe learn more about herself and her family.
I loved this book so much! I loved Jia and found her to be an intriguing character. I am not an immigrant so I can’t give real commentary on that part of the story but from what I understand I feel like the author did a good job of portraying that part of the story. The other characters were definitely interesting and sometimes I liked them and sometimes I didn’t. Oh there is also an”author” who has some chapters to make commentary which I thought was so fun. And you do get to find out who that is in the end. This was a fun ride and I think everyone needs to read this!
