Een beetje jammer dat je eigenlijk van te voren al heel goed in de gaten hebt hoe het in elkaar zit. Aan het einde nog wel een onverwachte draai, maar dat maakt het niet echt goed.

I listened to the Audible original read by Paapa Essiedu, who did a fantastic job. Good, solid little ghost story.

Not as terrifying as the first time (this time I was prepared; I already knew what was going to happen), but this great book hasn't lost its magic or ability to scare me shitless--that nursery still terrifies me.
I'm curious to see how I'm going to feel about it when I reread it for the third time.

This books starts a little slow as the narrative settles in, but about 30 pages in the main story gets going and it gets interesting. It's still slow reading at times even though the book is so short, but it's worth the read if you can make it through it. The story has a nice eeriness to it that I enjoyed, and it manages to make you feel apprehensive at times right along with Arthur.

I saw the movie first and then I saw the play, so it was weird to read the book after and I expected the plot to line up, which it doesn’t for the movie - the plot is more accurate in the play. I just enjoyed reading this because of the way it was written, felt really 1800s. I wouldn’t say it was scary but felt like a fireside tale.
