This a is a fun play! I enjoyed watching it many years ago and I enjoyed reading it recently. Mischief and some very funny scenes!

This was such an enjoyable play I'd love to see it live! This is also the first play I've willingly picked up and read without it being a school assignment.

Goldsmith was the pioneer behind the idea of the Anti-sentimental Comedy. A comedy that deals with upper-class members, hypocrisy and which begets genuine laughter in the audience. ‘She Stoops to Conquer ’ is one of the greatest examples of Anti-sentimental Comedy. Marlowe, the suitor for Hardcastle’s daughter comes to a bar adjacent to Hardcastle’s house, he asks for the proper address of Hardcastle, and incidentally, Tony, the mischievous stepson of Hardcastle is present there. Now, Hardcastle is not so gentle towards Tony, so Tony hatches a plan immediately at the scene to take revenge against his stepfather. And from this point on, the main plot moves forward. All the mistakes and misunderstandings evoke laughter in the minds of the audience. Every character in the play, pretends something and every one of them is busy hatching their plot, and that makes the play so engaging. Goldsmith’s attempt to bring the classic comedy back to the 18th century is fulfilled perfectly.
