This is a plain and simple survival story. I don't think there's anything special about it, except the dog, Bo. The author, Kate Marshall, did a really good job of capturing Jess's thoughts throughout her ordeal. It was a constant cycle of set-back, despair, action, and hope. I got tired of it after a while, but it was realistic, nonetheless.

I expected a bit more out of the plot. It had a good pace, but there were some things that I found questionable. Overall, this is a really great book for YA readers who want a break from reading about high school drama or romance.

While I enjoyed this survivalist story about a young girl who has lost everything and is forced to survive alone in the Canadian wilderness I never felt fully invested in Jess, although I did appreciate her hard won determination as the story went on. I loved the setting and I think Marshall did a great job making the wilderness a character in its own right.

Just once though, I want to read a story about a girl who actually pulls the trigger the first moment she needs to rather than hesitating and creating a situation that never needed to happen. Does that mean there’s something wrong with me? Also stop reading if you don’t want a spoiler but as much as I enjoyed this book I feel like it needs to come with a warning about the dog because that part messed me up!

If you’re looking for a YA version of The Revenant this is a great pick, but don’t expect to much more than a good survival story.

Pretty good book I thought it was interesting and kept me guessing and wondering so I really liked it

This was soo gooddddd! I’ve never read a survival story but this was perfect! Angst and fear and a good dog friend to keep the main character company. I loved this so much. Jess was an awesome character, I loved the disability rep, and how strong she was.

The premise of the book really pulled me in. Girl surviving in the wilderness after the death of her dad (not a spoiler literally in the summary) and then hunting down the killers. However, it was a much slower build up than I was imagining. It was also an extremely easy read, just a couple of hours to finish it off. If you like survival books and something that doesn’t take too much mental effort I recommend
