I'm not sure how I feel about this book as the boy comes from a Christian home but sure does a lot of lying, and there's no real consequences for his actions. There are ina few ways, yet, at the same time... yes, the boy did talk about how bad he felt about lying and what was going on, yet he continued to listen to his fleshly desires rather than be honest. I did like how he held up to his end of the bargain he made, that he did have going for him. The book most certainly did provide ample conversation around our lunch table!

Mrs. Hackett read Shiloh outloud to the class in 4th grade. I blame her my necessity to read audibly for the next two years of my life. The idea that you could captivate people with your voice and involve them in a book (not just storytime with pictures, a real true book) fascinated me.

I read this book with my 3 children (ages 10, 9 and 6). They all really enjoyed it and it held their attention. It's hard to find a book that they all enjoy.

I thought this book was interesting, reading it now I am realizing how dated it is. I do appreciate how the book delves into deeper topics than most children's novel and deals with them in an authentic way. I did not love this book as a read aloud because I felt that the religious implications were too present and I there was a word or two I felt was inappropriate and that I skipped as I read it. Some of my students liked it but some did not because they felt it was too sad.
