Complex, extraordinary, dense. I've never read anything like this. It takes an idea so abstract and outrageous that you can't see how it can be sustained over a book. But it is, and it's realised perfectly. Ambitiously brilliant.

I've heard a lot about Mieville and want to like him more than I actually liked this book. BOY was this confusing. i understand slightly more about this book after having discussed it in book club but it really doesn't give you many handholds. also I think in Mieville's defense I wasn't built to read noir. the cities themselves are very interesting and i could imagine liking a non-mystery novel set in them a lot more

4?

To read this book you have to unsee the science and accept it as is. I really struggled with suspension of disbelief but that's the entire premise of the book, right?

Honestly it was rlly different from anything I’ve read. Yes it was a detective on a case but it was very much a criticism of the Cold War as well

This would make for an interesting book club pick!

Read this for fantastic world building, dystopian sci-fi with complex rules and language akin to 1984/ Brave New World that is simultaneously one of the most unique settings you'll ever read.

We have this very cerebral concept of two cities that exist in the same physical plane but the government dictates that you cannot cross into, observe, consider, or 'see' the other city.

As someone who thinks borders are one of the stupidest human inventions, this world was super intriguing to get lost in.

I also really liked how the author sort of teases you with details and slowly reveals more and more of the world as the story goes on.

Beyond world building, I didn't quite care for any of the characters, and I really did not enjoy how dragged out the ending felt.

I will be reading more from this author!

Me encantó La estación de la calle perdido y me ha encantado este libro. Una novela policiaca pero también de ficción, aderezado con política. Una historia sobre dos ciudades que son una, pero que pese a convivir en el mismo espacio y tiempo no son lo mismo.
